Tighter regulations and international pressures placed compact fuel-efficient cars in high demand during the 1970s. Imports like Volkswagen, Toyota, and Datsun fit the bill nicely. As with every AutoShow, '12 offered an inside look at how the automotive world was evolving. The Eco-Drive Showcase attracted thousands of guests eager to see the future of green technology. Also featured was one of the most seldom-seen, but fondly remembered automakers - Triumph. The '12 Classic Concourse hosted the greatest collection of Triumph cars to be seen.

By the mid 1960s, automakers like Volkswagen, Fiat, and Datsun had become popular by tapping into the American market with their smaller economy vehicles. The iconic Volkswagen Beetle was being produced at levels to rival the Ford Model T during the '60s, and was being manufactured in Brazil, Mexico, Australia, and South Africa. The automaker had lived up to its name - "The People's Car."
