Fira de Barcelona extends venues
Upgrade for Gran Via and Montjuïc
Fira de Barcelona will expand and remodel its Gran Via and Montjuïc: The Gran Via venue, designed by Japanese architect Toyo Ito, currently has a total exhibition area of 240,000 m2, which will be extended by 60,000 m2 with the construction of a new two-storey building and premises for offices and services. With this initiative, scheduled to be completed in 2024, the venue will increase in size to 300,000 m2. The Montjuïc venue, which was built on the occasion of the 1929 International Exhibition, will be remodelled to include functional, versatile and sustainable facilities, whilst retaining the essence of this historical and urban site. Trade fair and congress locations and entrepreneurial and co-working areas will be created, as well as other spaces designed for cultural and public use. This major trade fair infrastructure project, valued at 380 million euros, has the support of the Catalan institutions.
